Will higher scoring games increase NHL popularity. how do you achieve that?

General opinion is that the NHL isn’t as exciting as the Gretzky era was in the 80s. Altho there may be more fans, the percentage of fan base compared to other sports may have decreased. Pretty much everyone agrees that higher scoring sports translate into more exciting contests and more watched games. (more lead changes). That’s why Americans don’t like soccer and don’t like 1-0 baseball games or 6-3 football games. So my question is…how does the NHL make higher scoring games? After all, making the goals bigger will only allow for goalies to let more in, but you’ll still have the “clutching and grabbing” complaint. Wouldn’t it be better to allow for a more open game? Some may disagree, but if you generally agree w/ me, can you give your thoughts on why the NHL doesn’t simply take action on this rather than just talk about it. Make the rules, and then make the enforce-able, and then make the refs enforce the rules so that great players can be even greater...crosby, selanne, kariya
