2 years on depo vera no period now have breakthrough bleeding WHY?

i have been on depo and haven't had a period at all.. nice but today out of nowhere i have brown breakthrough bleeding? could i be pregnant again ? i am 44 just had a baby 2 years ago.. i am concerned please help. or is it a more serious matter.
